Amen Dunes

Recording songs for himself in a Catskills cabin before he did it in an expatriate’s flat in Beijing, Amen Dunes’ Damon McMahon naturally stumbled upon a hypnotically personal style of psych pop–all quivering guitars, low moans, and primal rhythms. His 2009 album, DIA (cabin-recorded before his move overseas) blurred the margins between experimental folk and pop-drone. Last year’s follow-up, Through Donkey Jaw, found an even more hypnotic peak that kept his loose brand of mystery in tact.
